The Lightning Protection Institute (LPI) is a nationwide not-for-profit organization founded in 1955 to promote lightning protection education, awareness and safety. LPI membership is comprised of manufacturers, contractors, scientists, architects, engineers and safety directors - all who are interested in promoting lightning safety and improving the science of lightning protection. LPI members are dedicated to ensuring that today's lightning protection systems provide the best possible quality in both materials and installation practices for maximum safety.
To better ensure this maximum safety, in November of 2010, the Board of Directors of the LPI approved a restructuring of the existing lightning protection system certification program, to incorporate an on-site inspection division. This new inspection program, the Lightning Protection Institute Inspection Program or LPI-IP, allows for trained professionals to physically inspect actual installed lightning protection systems giving peace of mind to building owners, engineers, architects and even homeowners.
